Default Hey guys....

Areet people?
I'm completely new to this whole Parkour thing, not gonna pretend otherwise =] Have seen some videos and things like that and thought it would be an awesome thing to learn how to do, to have that control...something to aspire to anyway.

A tad scared about learning though, will need allot of help and nudges from people! But i'm willing to keep trying =]
Looking forwards to meeting everyone and getting started (eek!)

Hey Hannah,

Welcome to the forums. It's not a problem that you are new. There are a lot of people just starting out so you won't be the only new person. Alice has only been out training with us once so far so you and her will be around a similiar level. You will be surprised how fast you progress. We will all be happy to help; showing you techniques, explaining how to train, helping refine techniques as you learn them, ect...

Sounds like you have a good attitude towards learning. That fear will pretty much vanish once you realise how much fun being able to move fluidly is

Looking forward to training with you
Scott

Hey.

Cool to see more newcomers to Parkour.

I would say start practicing small precisions and building up your confidence.
You could also watch videos on the basics of parkour so you get an idea of
What you could do at the next jam..

Hope that helps you.

Hannah,

As steven said you should start doing some small precision jumps. This is a two footed jump normally done from one wall to another. However you can just as easily practice this by putting a couple of markers on the floor - piece of string? Really focus on getting a soft controlled landing, land on your toes, and bend your knees as you land to absord the impact

Another thing you can practice is balancing on things - rails, walls, even just walk along the kerb on the pavement. This will help develop the control that will allow you to preform more advanced things faster.

The next thing you want to do is start to get a feel for the 'cat' position

It will be easier to hold with almost straight arms , pushing with your legs.

The final thing is a basic vault - for some reason I can't find a video showing it. I would call it a step vault - basically a speed vault but tapping your outside foot on the object. Maybe someone else who see's this will know another name for it. If no one can tell me another name for it then I'll try and describe what I mean better.

That should give you plenty to get started on, then when you come out we can help you improve on them as well as teaching you some new things.

On a totally unrelated note where abouts are you from originally? - sounded like your mum lives a wee bit outside aberdeen.

Do you mean the lazy vault? I'd find a picture, but my browser's being all touchy.

Cheers caitch, thats exactly what I meant. That is the easiest way to learn them, I used that sort of progression way back when i was starting.

Hannah have a look at that video caitch posted, the movement I mean is shown about 55 seconds in.
