Getting Access to a gym

Several people have stated that one of the things they think we most need is a weekly gym session. I think this is a great idea and needs to be pursued further.

I've did a bit of research and I think the best possible gym in aberdeen would be : [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

It's located on holburn street. I've been there a couple of times with my university's gymnastics club and they didn't seem to mind me and another guy trying our own thing - aka stupid stuff. So I'm going to email them asking what facilities they have-incase anythings changed- and what weeknights its available to rent, cost ect. After this i'll post the details up here and we can take it from there.

Well I was thinking that we would have this on a weeknight for a few hours, with a seperate training day outdoors -probably on weekend.

I can't be too specific until I get an email back.

When I was first starting parkour the nokizaru team had a weekly gym night set up. I think it was through the same gymanstic team, although they have changed gyms now. I mentioned that in the email to them. *fingers crossed*

agreed, gym is one of the things that is needed, the best aberdeen had when i started was a councy castle + a few mats at ferryhill community center!

A little update :They are taking there time to reply to my email.
If they havn't got back to me by the end of next week I'll give them a phone.

Also welcome to the forums Fraser. How long have you been training? Infact you should probably make a post in the introduction section so we all know a little about you.

Sorry for lack of updates - I've been pretty busy this last week.
They didn't respond to my email. I'll give the club a phone tommorrow.

I finally got around to phoning them and the contact number I had is down. The webiste is also down. I'm not sure if they are closed for good or just a temp thing.

I've emailed the sports village asking what equipment they have available.

I think we would only need 1/3rd of the hall which is 3 badminton courts.

This would cost : Sports Hall (Third) Peak:£45 Off Peak: £27

However the site says student booking gets 50% off so all being well it would be :
Peak:£22.50 Off Peak:£13.50

I'll update when I get a reply.

That's pretty cool. So what kind of facilities would we get there? Or would it be just an empty hall?

Well apparently they do gymnastics classes there so I would hazard a guess at mats, balance beams, horses, other vaultable(SP) objects, I'm hoping they have uneven bars or rings .

I've asked them this in the email. I'm pretty hopeful though as it's supposed to be awesome :

'The North East of Scotland has had a major boost with the creation of a modern, vibrant new facility which will provide a variety of sports for all.'

I've been in it a couple of times and it's massive, it was top notch for the things I saw. As gymnastics is a pretty big sport I figure that they will have a lot of equipment.

I might need to negotitate with them a bit though due to health and safety. Most likely we will need to sign a disclaimer of some sort.
